STATISTICS
St. Vincent Meals on Wheels is the largest privately funded meals program in the country. Thanks to the support of our donors and volunteers-our angels-we prepared and delivered over one million meals for the homebound and hungry across Los Angeles!
- 1,007,901 meals served in 2006 - that's an average of 2,800 meals per day!
- Our annual budget has reached a record $6.2 million. Clients contribute $1.7 million based on what they can afford to pay. And the remaining $4.5 million must be raised from our caring friends and supporters!
- One meal costs $6.07 to prepare and deliver. We ask for donations of $2.50 per meal. Since many of our clients can't pay this amount, we ask them to pay whatever they can afford. We serve anyone in need regardless of their ability to pay.
- 500 of our 2,000 daily meal-delivery clients receive meals that are tailored to their medical needs or personal preferences, such as low sodium and vegetarian meals.
- 225 clients prefer to receive a week's worth of frozen meals instead of daily delivery.
- About 900 clients receive cold suppers to eat later in the day.
- Our 200 neediest clients-who depend on us for everything they eat-also receive breakfast.
- Our paid staff of 94 relies on more than 260 volunteers to prepare and deliver meals seven days a week.
- To deliver meals to clients, we drove 246,740 miles in 2006, an average of 678 miles per day!
- Gasoline for the year cost $59,929-a much higher price than we budgeted for.
- Our 42 meal-delivery cars and vans are donated.
- Our 33 meal delivery routes span from downtown Los Angeles on the east, to the Fairfax area on the west, the Hollywood Hills on the north, and Venice Boulevard on the south.
